From starting as a soap opera actor and dancing show contestant to a demigod of Cinema, Chris Hemsworth has indeed gone a long way.
And now he’s been chosen by People’s Magazine as the “Sexiest Man Alive.”
Every year, the publication announces their choice for the male star that best fits the title.
Hemsworth joins past winners Channing Tatum, Bradley Cooper, and Ryan Reynolds in the coveted list. Hemsworth previously spoke about his long journey before achieving leading man status.
Yong Chavez: Some people might think that you’re an overnight success, but here you’re mentioning that you’re not.
Chris Hemsworth: Yeah, I started when – I’m 30 now – when I was about 17, I attempted to get into acting, you know. But I’m kind of glad that it has taken that long because by the time I was given bigger opportunities, I felt somewhat ready for them. There were plenty of periods when I was about to get back in the plane and head back to Australia and leave Hollywood. (Chuckles) I’m glad I didn’t. I’m glad I stuck with it.
But aside from his undeniable onscreen presence, fans also love Hemsworth for his devotion to his wife, actress-model Elsa Pataky. When they attended the Oscars early this year, the then-pregnant Elsa expressed doubt about her red carpet look. Her husband quickly re-assured her.
The Australian-born star got into the big leagues by playing Marvel’s “Thor,” but his performance in last year’s “Rush” also showed his depth as an actor.
Hemsworth’s remarkable year includes welcoming twin sons last March.
His next big movie, “In the Heart of the Sea,” Hemsworth plays Owen Chase, a veteran shipmate trying to survive after encountering disaster in the heart of the ocean. The much-anticipated film also stars Cillian Murphy and is directed by Ron Howard.
