REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – High expectations yielded few results as the US speed skating team, led by Filipino American JR Celski, has been shut out at the podium.

Celski was Team USA’s last hope for an individual medal.

However, the hope was dashed when the Filipino-American finished 6th at Friday’s 500-meter short track finals.

Celski’s best time in the finals was 41.52 seconds, compared to Russia’s Victor An who took gold with 41.063 seconds.

Throughout the course of the Olympics, the US speed skating team raised issues about their uniforms provided by Under Armour. They said that the air vent designs may be slowing them down.

Despite the criticism, Under Armour announced it will not only continue to sponsor the US team, but will extend their sponsorship into 2022.

The US team has one last chance at a team medal in this weekend’s relay.
