REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – The number two Republican in the House of Representatives and seven-term Virginia congressman Eric Cantor will step down from his post following a stunning defeat in Tuesday’s primary to an underfunded Tea Party challenger Dave Brat.

“Now, while intend to serve out my term as member of Congress in the seventh district of Virginia, effective July 31, I will be stepping down as majority leader,” he said at a Capitol Hill press conference.

Experts say Brat won in part by slamming Cantor for publicly supporting immigration reform and amnesty for undocumented immigrants.

Political analysts like CNN’s David Gergen say Cantor’s defeat effectively kills any hopes that the House will pass an immigration reform bill.

Gergen says that for Cantor to be knocked off by a Tea Party conservative over his efforts to push for immigration reform will send shock waves through Republican ranks.

In a Skype interview with Balitang America, political science expert Prof. Jay Gonzalez said Cantors defeat means a setback the immigration reform movement. He said that immigrant advocates will need to find a new champion on the Republican side of the House.

“Not exactly a big champion, but somebody who will push it into the agenda of committee hearings, and more specifically onto the House floor,” Gonzalez said.

Good for Cantor, you can’t play with the real people that live in America the right way not the wrong way. Experts say Brat won in part by slamming Cantor for publicly supporting immigration reform and amnesty for undocumented immigrants. Goodbye to all undocumented immigrants. We Americans will not vote for people that help people that broke the law in America.

Congressman E Cantor with $5Mcampaign fund defeated because he is a RINO (Republican In Name Only)he is in favor for Amnesty and NEW Immigration reform. Brat a Tea Party with 200K money,is for No-Amnesty and No-immigration reform. Amnesty will bankcrupt America, majority of the illegals will resort to welfare onced they get their green card. The voters and taxpayers will pay for their Obamacare and welfare. The OLD immigration reform is fall in line and wait for your term. Majority of the American is not in favor on Amnesty and immigration reform and TPS is dead. Illegals, time to go back home.Obama priority is to flood America with children from Central America, mostly 17yrs old. You the taxpayers spend $252 per day to feed the children inside military bases.More thousand are coming. Good bye Asians…
