REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – A Republican lawmaker could play an important role in passing more immigration reform measures in Congress.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, who is first in line to replace House Speaker John Boehner, is said to be supporting a bill that would allow amnesty for undocumented immigrants who enlist in the military.

Last year, another Republican congressman, Jeff Denham, introduced a military-style Dream Act that would provide green cards to undocumented immigrants just for enlisting in the military.

The ENLIST Act is cosponsored by 43 House members and was referred to the House Armed Services Committee last June.

Critics have slammed it saying people who don’t deserve to be in the military will enlist just to get legal status. They also pointed out that the military is getting enough recruits as it is.

They also accuse Denham of trying to attach his proposal to the National Defense Authorization Act which funds the Department of Defense.

Besides promoting this proposal, Cantor is also creating his own version of the Dream Act, which would grant legal status to undocumented immigrants who came to the US as children.

The majority leader has reportedly angered conservatives in the House with his stance on immigration.

I don’t think anyone coming to the U.S, illegally should be allowed to do anything except go back to there home country. It is hard enough to find a job for legal citizens and our government continues to expand on there H1 visa program which makes it harder to find a job. Besides I watch TFC and GMA and your government and citizens didn’t want our military bases there and continue to tell us to get out of the Philippines so stay out of our country. PS I watch TFC because my wife is a Filipina and she came here legally as it should be.

People in office don’t care about us Americans ? But only about the votes they need to get back into office again. I think what Americans should do is don’t vote for all the people that is pushing for undocumented immigrants ! About the amnesty for undocumented immigrants enlisted in military it’s OK with me only them !
