RIDGEFIELD, NJ — When Fil-Am business owner Marisse Panlilio’s nine-year-old Pomeranian went to doggie heaven nine years ago, she made a promise to keep her baby’s memory alive through “Beulah Mae’s Doggie Fashion Show”, held at the Filipino American Festivals in New Jersey.
From Vera Wang-inspired outfits to homemade creative costumes such as a “Poodle Body Scrub” with her human parent’s matching shower costume, fine furry friends of all breeds and sizes walked the makeshift runway to showcase their doggie fashion style.
Panlilio said, “Kaming mga animal lovers, we dress them up, we let people know that there are animal lovers out there.”
Piper’s mom Jan Policarpio said, “Kilala namin si Beulah. We saw her nung baby pa siya. Yun nga lang, hindi siya naaubutan ni Piper pero we loved her too.”
Dog owners say a pet fashion show is a fun way to showcase not just their dog’s fashion sense but more importantly to show their love for man’s best friend.
Larry Bruno’s mom Tet Palencia said, “Larry gives us company, lalo na wala na yung mga anak namin so my husband and I, eto na lang ang aming baby baby.”
Coby’s Dad Edlyn Peregrina said, “Makikita mo yung care niya, talagang napakalambing. So kailangan talaga nating mahalin ang ating mga pets dahil sila ang nagbibigay ng saya din sa atin eh.”
Milo’s mom Lidie Mercado said, “Part of the family sila. So lifetime talaga. The memory lives on.”
Organizers say, they do not give out awards in this show. Beulah Mae’s Fashion Show believes every dog is a winner.
