Canada elects new Prime Minister in landslide win

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Our kababayans in Canada have a new prime minister for the first time in about 10 years — marking a dramatic political victory for the country’s liberal party.

Liberal leader Justin Trudeau delivered a stunning blow to conservative incumbent Prime Minister Stephen Harper with a landslide win.

The 43-year-old is the son of former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau.

Some had dismissed the younger Trudeau as trading off of his father’s achievements and the family name, but he argued that Canadians want change.

Meanwhile, there were no winners among the handful of Filipino Canadian candidates who ran for seats in the parliament.
