In Jacksonville, Florida, a judge denied bond on Tuesday for the Filipino man accused of plotting a mass shooting at a local Islamic center, referring to 69-year-old Bernandino Bolatete as a ‘serious, serious danger’ to the community.
Authorities arrested Bolatete on Friday for possessing an unregistered firearm silencer, after an investigation confirmed that he was making plans to carry out the shooting.
In Bolatete’s first court appearance Tuesday, prosecutors said FBI agents found 2500 rounds of ammunition and 12 guns under Bolatete’s possession.
Prosecutors also argued that Bolatete is a flight risk as he is not a US citizen, and still has family in the Philippines.
Bolatete remains behind bars and is due back in court on December 12 for a preliminary hearing.
