In boxing news — the long-awaited Manny Pacquiao versus Amir Khan fight is still in limbo.
Nonito “the Filipino Flash” Donaire is confirmed to no longer be with Top Rank promotions.
Now that the possible match between Pacquiao and Khan may not be happening until November in the United Arab Emirates, Top Rank’s CEO Bob Arum confirmed that he is now talking to Pacquiao for a possible fight in June or July of this year.
According to Arum, they are still discussing possible venues.
“I don’t know yet where it will be, we are discussing various places; but obviously the finances as always will be there as part of the making the fight, so thats not a problem,” Arum exclusively told BA.
Meanwhile, Arum confirms that Donaire is now a free agent.
“Well, Nonito Donaire wanted the opportunity to fight in the Philippines… so we gave him the release from his contract, because that was running out next month,” Arum said.
“And so he is now negotiating, I believe, for a fight in the Philippines. Terrific young man, terrific fighter and we wish him the best. And hopefully when we have something concrete for him, maybe later in the year, we will contact him.”
Arum also said that Top Rank and Donaire parted amicably — adding he is not closing Top Rank’s door on Donaire for a fight in the future.
