TORRANCE, CA — 12 beautiful young women, from all over California, took to the stage of the James Armstrong Theater in Torrance—competing for the crown of Mutya Pilipinas California 2019.
Pageant president Camille Agbayani says their goal is not just to award the prettiest girls—they are hoping to help their contestants become well-rounded people.
“We wanna discover young women and help them achieve their dreams, goals, develop their personalities, enhance their skills and talents, so they can have more self-confidence.”
Filipino American the voice sensation Jej Vinson, serenaded the contestants, and says representing Filipino American youth through music or the crown is a great opportunity.
“Someone who actually who leads out Filipinos, sets themselves out as an example, trying to represent their home country, the Philippines, through their wisdom, achievements”
Former beauty queens, who are now judges at this year’s competition, share what they are looking for from the winning contestant.
“I want to find someone with confidence, someone who can carry herself well,” said Rosemarie De Vera.
“ A beauty queen is someone who represent the beauty inside and out, especially for women, it represent the strength and empowerment of women in society,” said Bong Dimayacyac-Nuguid.
At the end, the winners are face of L’aura Denise Duarte, Miss Earth Philippines California Alyssa Redondo— and 24-year old Louise Janica Arroyo from Los Angeles is Mutya Pilipinas California 2019.
