DALY CITY, Calif. – The results of Super Tuesday 3 did not hinder the spirit of Bernie Sanders supporters in Daly City as they planned for the next primary election.
Jill Fortuna, host of the Sanders Barnstorm Party, is encouraging more volunteers to participate in phone banking, especially after Hillary Clinton’s win of all five states.
“I’m definitely disappointed but at the same time he’s still getting delegates from all of those states,” Fortuna said. “We have to work that much harder with our phone banking to really reach out to voters because if we do, they will become supporters.”
Now that the races in the Clinton-friendly Southern states are over, Sanders hopes for victories out West. College student Angeline Ubaldo says Filipino American voters could help give Sanders the boost he needs.
“I feel like he needs to take a stance on what he thinks are issues affecting Asian Americans, especially in the Philippines,” Ubaldo said. “Maybe then he can reach out to a greater Filipino audience.”
That is compared to Clinton, who has actively courted the Asian American vote, and has even launched an initiative called AAPI (Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders) For Hillary.
According to the Migration Policy Institute, most immigrants from the Philippines settle in California, which has 475 delegates up for grabs in June.
“When Clinton won all the majority states for Super Tuesday, it was disheartening but it’s not all the states yet,” Ubaldo said. “None of the states on the West Coast have voted, and I think that’s going to be a big push for Bernie.”
Sanders says he will keep fighting until the convention in July, and his supporters say they are with him all the way.
Hillary all the way!!! No to old fart Bern!
