Bay Area Filipino caregivers win $130,000 wage-theft case against employers

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Victory for Pinoy caregivers in the Bay Area who sued their employer for $130,000 in wage theft.

Ageway Senior Care in Silicon Valley was ordered to pay back wages and damages to 13 Filipino caregivers.

The U.S. Labor Department found that Ageway paid them as little as $3.25 per hour.

The Labor Department also found the owners of Antioch, Calif.-based Lake Alhambra Assisted Living Center guilty of forcing their Filipino employees to take time off without pay.

The staff was also threatened with termination, deportation and reduced wages and work hours.
