Bay Area Filipinas call for Aquino’s ouster on Intl Women’s Day

OAKLAND, Calif. – In the streets of Oakland, the cry for an end to violence against women took on another meaning for members of GABRIELA USA.

They’re demanding for the resignation of President Benigno Aquino III for allegedly neglecting the cries of justice from Filipino women.

“When we think of self determination, its eradicating oppressive government which why we are calling for the ouster of Noynoy Aquino,” said Pia Cortez, GABRIELA SF Co-Chairperson.

They say the Aquino government’s agreements with the U.S. military, and the continued presence of American troops in the Philippines, has endangered the lives of women, which was the case with the Jennifer Laude murder.

“We know that when these wars of aggression happen, women and children become collateral damage,” said Cortez.

Here in the Bay Area, these activists stand in solidarity with other minorities against the continuation of gentrification as families are being pushed out of their communities to make way for developers to open housing for the wealthy elite.

GABRIELA USA says that they will continue to work with their allies as they prepare for more demonstrations regarding working women’s rights on International Worker’s Day on May 1st.

When the Japanese Imperial Army troops landed in the Philippines sometime between 1941-1942, they killed several thousands of Filipinos. It did not matter if you are a new born male or female, middle age male or female, old aged male or female, etc. Let’s just say were a bunch of one-sided self-righteous and inconsiderate person for awhile that we do not know what “GRATITUDE” means, where was the so-called radical Gabriela-USA during those years?
What about when the Spaniards colonized the Philippines, there were some many Filipinos who needlessly died. You name it, man, women, children, etc. died by the thousands for centuries worth of occupation. So, where is the so-called Gabriela-Philippines-USA during those times?
The United States came to our rescue and they lost thousand of lives…how is it that there is no single selfish-one sided group protesting on behalf of the thousands of man, women, transgenders, gay or lesbian who lost their lives during those times?
