REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – It was a big win on Friday for an up and coming Filipino boxer who is based in the Bay Area.

International Boxing Association Flyweight Champion Bruno Escalante held on to his title after knocking out his opponent, Mexican veteran Lorenzo Trejo, in the first round.

Boxing analysts say Escalante fired quick off-angle punches and launched a left hook to the body, and then a right hook to the head that finally sent Trejo to the mat.

Escalante is originally from Sibonga, Cebu and is now based out of San Carlos, Calif.
