BROOKLYN, N.Y. – There’s a creative vibe and energy that draws artists to Brooklyn, New York.
That’s exactly why the “Philippines Prince of Rock” Bamboo chose to record nine of the 11 songs in his latest concept album in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
“It’s got a really urban feel to it, like lyrically, the throws, its got some hip hop feel to it as well, but in a rock form,” Bamboo said. “I think the setting where we’re recording here in Brooklyn, it just lends to that, it all seeps in here, the energy, people are gonna hear that.”
Bamboo’s still untitled album is tentatively scheduled to be released as early as September.
The Filipino singer-songwriter is also in the US to perform in San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Anchorage, Honolulu, Chicago and New Jersey.
He will be performing songs from his last album “No Water, No Moon” for the first time in the United States.
“We should be playing stuff from Rivermaya from way back then, from times of Hallelujah and Noypi and then No Water, No Moon. It should be a fun show,” he said.
Meantime, after a successful debut of the Voice Kids Philippines last year, Coach Bamboo says Season 2 is shaping up to be another exciting one. The show’s blind auditions just wrapped up right before he left for the US.
“I’m just very happy with my team, a lot of color, a lot of great kids, this year, we’ve lowered the age to seven,” he said.
Bamboo says, some kids are born to be stars such as Season 1 finalist Juan Karlos also known as the “Little Bamboo.”
“He’s a star, when i saw him, when i heard him, when he talked and the kulit factor that he has,” the coach said, “For kids, it’s stars, we’re looking for someone with that star quality.”
Filipino kids from all over the world came to audition for this coming season.
Bamboo said, “From every part of the globe so, that makes it even more interesting, but then the funny thing maski saan sila sa mundo, it’s still one root, still very Pinoy and the emotions when we sing vocally, we’re just different singers.”
The Voice Kids Philippines Season 2 airs in June.
