REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – A Department of Public Safety official said they are looking into whether a wrong-way driver who hit and killed an Arizona Fil-Am woman and her boyfriend was intoxicated.

On Sunday morning authorities say a wrong-way driver hit Filipina Ashley Adea and 25-year-old Michael Ruquet on the loop 202 in Gilbert, Ariz.

The Department of Public Safety identified the wrong-way driver as 68-year old Patricia Murphy.

“In her case, we have not ruled out impairment as a factor,” Bart Graves of the Department of Public Safety said. “So from the law enforcement stand point that’s we’re looking at. That’s a criminal investigation, criminal case. We’re investigating it.”

Balitang America tried to contact Adea’s mother but she declined to comment.

Funeral arrangements have not been finalized, but a friend says the families of the victims have agreed to hold services together.
