LAS VEGAS – 25-year-old Aston Francis Palicte marked his American boxing debut with his first win over the weekend.
The D Hotel in downtown Las Vegas events center hosted the 7th final “Knock Out at the D” boxing event of the year.
Palicte, from Bagos City, Philippines, fought Oscar Cantu as headliners of the main event, which was 10 rounds in the NABF WBO International Superflyweight.
Palicte talked about his boxing mechanics, which he says was the key in beating Cantu.
Palicte’s boxing defense and slugging ability proved to be no match for the undefeated Texan boxer Oscar Cantu.
Cantu said, “It was a tremendous fight. We both fought real hard.”
Palicte says that fighting in Vegas – the fighting capital of the world – was a dream come true, as he only watches Vegas fights on TV and the Internet.
“I want him to be recognize internationally, to be one of the top prospects. If he could be someone like Donaire or Brian Viloria, it would be a huge achievement already,” said Jason Soong, Palicte’s manager.
With the score of 98-92, 96-94, 94-96, “Mighty” Palicte won via split decision. Roy Jones promotions vowed to give Palicte a world title fight shot in 2017.
Palicte will go back home to the Philippines to spend the holidays with his family.
