2018 was a big year for 27-year-old, mighty Aston Palicte.
The Negros Occidental boxer fought his way to a draw in his first world title shot against fellow Filipino Donnie Nietes, and now he’s looking for an early start to title contention.
He spent the holidays in the US, training for his January 31st fight against undefeated Puerto Rican Jose Martinez at the Viejas Casino and Resort in San Diego.
Palicte’s fight will be a WBO junior bantamweight eliminator, giving the winner a shot at the world title.
Coincidentally, Donnie Nietes, captured the WBO junior bantamweight title on New Year’s Eve, setting the stage for a potential rematch between the two Filipinos who shared a split draw last September.
He’s been learning more as he trains alongside 8 division world champion Manny Pacquiao.
Pacquiao has been gearing up for his January 19th pay-per-view showdown against Adrien Broner.
