As SoCal sees another immigration sweep, activists look for compassion towards immigrants

SANTA MONICA — Immigrant rights activists from the Coalition for Human Immigrants Rights spent Valentine’s Day, giving out flowers with a cause, and asking for love at the voting polls.

“This is for immigrant families. For Dreamers that have now lost their permits and their opportunity.”

“Ask you guys to keep immigrant families in your heart when it comes to voting this year.”

Each rose carried the story of Dreamers and how DACA changed their lives for the better, and many strangers showed support for the action.

This nationwide day of action come days after immigration officials illegally rounded up over a hundred immigrants living in southern California.

Federal officials say they had arrested 160 undocumented immigrants last week during a five-day operation; most of those arrested were high priority immigrants with criminal backgrounds and serious violent offenses.

However, ICE says that while they are targeted raids, they would also detain other deportable people.

The Philippine consulate is now checking to see if any Philippine nationals were among those arrested.
