REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Arizona, the state known for its anti-undocumented immigrant sentiments, is taking a step to ease up on deporting undocumented immigrants.

A bill filed Monday aims to limit the cooperation of Arizona authorities with ICE officers in an attempt to reduce deportations.

The bill would only allow Arizona authorities to detain undocumented immigrants for federal officers if they had been convicted of a serious crime. The federal government pays back the cost of detaining them, according to the bill.

The move marks a big change in direction for Arizona, known for passing a controversial bill that conducts a massive crackdown on illegal immigration.
