APEC meeting relocates to Manila due to typhoon threat

In Albay Province, government officials are preparing evacuation measures before Typhoon Ruby makes landfall.

Although conditions are still normal, authorities are worried that heavy rains and strong winds could trigger lahar flows from Mayon Volcano.

Farmers immediately dried their rice harvest for storage before the onslaught of the typhoon.

Albay will no longer host the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) senior official’s meeting, because of the threat of the typhoon. The event will be held in Manila instead on Dec. 8.

Emergency responders, who are supposed to be deployed for the APEC event in Legazpi, are now on standby.
