Anti-PNoy Fil-Am activists say they’re keeping People Power alive

SAN FRANCISCO – Filipino American activists took to the streets of downtown San Francisco on Tuesday, commemorating the 29th anniversary of the EDSA revolution by demanding the resignation of President Benigno Aquino III.

They took their flags and chants all the way to the San Francisco Philippine Consulate.

They say the spirit of the People Power Revolution is still alive in them today and that they are fed up with the Aquino government’s failures, citing the Visiting Forces Agreement which they say led to the death of transgender Pinay Jennifer Laude, and the recent Mamasapano Clash.

“Filipinos in the U.S. also stand to continue the revolutionary spirit of People Power I,” Bayan-USA Sec. General Jessica Antonio said. “We also recognize as migrants and children of migrants the impact of the failure the Aquino regime to protect migrant workers as well as to protect Filipinos within the Philippines.”

They say that only through a transitional council of those who demand Aquino’s resignation will there be a promising future of the Philippines.

“We’ve already seen so many People Power I, People Power II and we really want to see a true genuine systematic change and true Philippine independence from U.S. imperialism,” Jessica Antonio said.

Some of these activist believe that President Aquino is doing a disservice to the legacy of his late father Sen. Ninoy Aquino.

“I think Noynoy should heed his father’s advice in that he should try to live with honor, live up to the Filipino people, have a clear conscience, be accountable to what is happening to the Philippines, be accountable to the Filipino people, and face them,” Gabriella SF Co-Chair Pia Cortez said.

These activists plan to hold more community forums in order to educate other kababayans and people in their communities about the recent events in the Philippines such as the Mamasapano clash.

Some of these activist believe that President Aquino is doing a disservice to the legacy of his late father Sen. Ninoy Aquino. When doing a dirt-to-dirt comparison, “Penoy” is the lighter kind of dirt in contrast to “Ninoy” being the mud…What legacy are we talking about? During the prominent years of Ninoy, Filipinos were misinformed on a wide variety of issues. While Ninoy was deeply involved in building the CPP-NPA ranks, it is instructional to note that he was the real Kumander Dante (not Bernabe Buscayno) being the top ranking NPA member. Supposed the Hacienda Luisita was only known as the farmers stronghold in Tarlac, it was really the headquarters of the CPP-NPA, where Ninoy, Bernabe Buscayno and Jose Maria Sison met as often as they could. Not only that Jaime Cardinal Sin was part of the problem, he was also behind the non-stop protest compromising the Catholic church.

“I think Noynoy should heed his father’s advice in that he should try to live with honor, live up to the Filipino people, have a clear conscience, be accountable to what is happening to the Philippines, be accountable to the Filipino people. Common Cortez, you should read the real Filipino history. Was Ninoy really fit the description of being accountable to the people when he is the well known leader of the CPP-NPA. Remote places in the Philippines like Cagayan and Isabela were living in fears as the CPP-NPA terrorized villages where farmers lived. Failing to cooperate by providing food supplies could mean being shot anytime/anywhere.

Jessica Aquino need to eat more rice before talking about US Imperialism. Maybe she needs to ask his great grandfathers how many times the United States protected or helped the Philippines from other countries invasion or rule…Jessica Aquino should ask Penoy if he is able to transport or provide assistance to other parts of the Philippines, should another super typhoon strikes. Gabriela USA should stop spreading lies that Ninoy Aquino has lived with honor and up the Filipino people. Maybe to live with honor with the CPP-NPA…that’s the undisputed facts…
