SF Filipinos take anti-China protest to Apple store

SAN FRANCISCO – From iPhones to iWatches, people all over the world spend hundreds to thousands of dollars on Apple products.

While the technology is conceptualized in the US, the products are made in China.

The members of the US Pinoys for Good Governance are calling all people to stop buying Apple goods because of China’s so-called use of force over the disputed territories.

They say that by not purchasing Apple products it will send a message of solidarity by causing a dent in China’s economy.

“In the last year Chinese exports to the US and the rest of the world has gone down 14.6 percent when it was expected to rise by double digits, so it is effecting,” said Rodel Rodis.

These kababayans chose Philippine Independence Day to hold the protest because they say they are fighting for the Philippines’ sovereignty.

“For Philippine independence to be meaningful, to celebrate it – we must assertively defend it and do what we can to expose China to the rest of the world,” said Rodis.

Some people here in San Francisco are unsure if this will have some or no effect against China.

“I think all those demonstrations don’t help and I think the executives at Apple laugh about it and they’re laughing at [the boy cotters] right now,” said Steve Pantel.

“Maybe it’s going to help because so many of the Apple product is made in China,” said Willis Morabe. “So what I’m going to do is not buy Apple.”

“I thinks it’s the beginning,” said Melanie Antone. “I think it’s going to take a lot of work and partnership to get that message across.”

Balitang America contacted Apple’s corporate office earlier but they were unable to give a comment at this time.
