Anti-balut petition in NYC gains nearly 5,000 signatures

NEW YORK CITY – An animal rights activist in New York claims even balut has animal rights, and wants it off the menu at a local restaurant.

Activist Gabrielle Hardy is urging Maharlika, a popular Filipino restaurant in New York, to stop serving the Filipino delicacy.

Hardy created the online petition two weeks ago saying that balut is disgusting and it should be taken off Maharlika’s menu.

She says people should not eat the unborn duck fetus.

By Friday morning, the petition gained 4,659 signatures out of it’s goal 5,000 signatures.

In a text message to Balitang America, Maharlika co-owner Nicole Ponseca said:

“From where I stand, diversity in food is as important as our religious beliefs. It’s the fabric of who we are. This is not pro-balut or anti-balut. This is pro-culture, pro-Filipino, and pro-diversity.”

Let us all just be vegetarians. But wait! Don’t plants have rights too? Let us all die then!

You see fowls are not endangered species. They are in fact one of the traditional sources of food. So balut should not meet any fake rally.

Why don’t they rally against caviar, eggs of endangered species of sturgeon. Oh they should not eat lamb because they are so cute. Just the oldest dying sheep. There are lots of their eating habits so objectionable, why don’t they rally before their mirrors!

They have to stop it, for one reason it isn’t healthy to eat balut a dead chick in the egg? That’s a animal thing to do? Why they should just keep it in the Philippines to eat that dumb food?

Can we just lay off this “PC” crappola and just leave well enough alone?..pretty soon you are going to make it illegal for people to breath because we are being cruel to the microorganisms we breath in, when will all this end? And don’t the PC police have anything better to do? God sakes! don’t intrude on cultural/traditional practices, they define us as a people.
