For Fil-Am literature fans, a novel widely held as a must-read book on the immigrant experience in America joins the roster of classics offered by a major international publishing company.
An edition of “America is in The Heart” by Carlos Bulosan will be published by Penguin Classics in May 2019, just in time for Asian American History Month.
The Penguin classic edition will feature a forward by Fil-Am author Elaine Castillo, who wrote 2018’s “America is Not in The Heart.”
Bulosan’s novel was first published in 1946, and follows the journey of a Filipino immigrant in the United States during the Great Depression.
“America is in The Heart” joins other Filipino works on the Penguin Classics roster — including Jose Rizal’s “Noli me Tangere” and “El Filibusterismo”, as well as Nick Joaquin’s “The Woman Who Had Two Navels…and Tales of the Tropical Gothic.”
Penguin Classics, a division of Penguin Random House, is led by Filipina vice president and publisher Elda Rotor.
