Amal Clooney urged: Take up case of Fallen 44

By RG Cruz, ABS-CBN News

MANILA – Leftist group Bayan Muna is urging international human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin-Clooney to take up the cudgels for the 44 Special Action Force (SAF) troopers who were killed in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

In a statement, Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Neri Colmenares issued a statement after Alamuddin-Clooney filed a case before the United Nations Human Rights Committee in connection with the prosecution of former President Gloria Arroyo.

“While we are glad that Atty. Clooney is concerned with the human rights situation in the Philippines, it is best that she also raise the issue of human rights violations of the poor and the powerless such as the at least 229 cases of extrajudicial killings of activists, media and ordinary people, enforced disappearances, illegal arrest and detention. Her skills and talents are needed by those who cannot afford legal services in their search for justice like the widows of the SAF44. We ask Atty. Clooney to visit the Philippines and see for herself the plight of the nameless poor who are victims of injustice and human rights violations.”

Alamuddin-Clooney has asked the UN body to ask for the release of Mrs. Arroyo from detention as an interim relief pursuant to Rule 92 of the Committee’s Rule of Procedures to allow her to seek medical treatment abroad.

Philippine officials have come under fire for the January 25 operation of the police Special Action Force that targeted Malaysian terrorist Zulkifli bin Hir, alias Marwan, and Filipino terror suspect Basit Usman.

Forty-four SAF commandos, 18 Moro fighters and 5 civilians were killed in the operation.

There are so many entities, groups, offices, etc. who express disagreement towards the call on President Aquino to step down. Since President Aquino is the Commander-in-Chief (by virtue of the office if he is brave enough to own it), he is the only one who can authorize an operation that deals with terrorist. Unless he delegated this authority to some competence that no one knows? If anyone knows this, how about it? So, the outcome of the Mamasapano operation successful in some extent but it cost 44 lives of the PNPSAF. No other entity, office, agency, expertise, etc. outside the PNPSAF or President Aquino know or should know any better. If you cannot be organized enough to tell the media or the family of the fallen 44 regarding responsible approach to the tragedy, then result is overwhelming…Giving the media or family a run-around or no response approach, the result is a desperate call for the President to step down…you cannot blame the people…

General Napenas executed his mission in the manner any officer or police officer-soldier would… Anyone who does not have any experience or understanding about battle specially those who want to express support to “Peenoy” including those relatives in the Los Angeles area should keep their communist ideology to themselves. Peenoy is naturally anti-military as it was passed down to him by his father Ninoy.
It is usually those people in office who exemplifies two-face personalities (somewhat bi-polar). When everything goes well, they’ll be all over claiming they did everything. Now that everything is chaotic, they’ll wash their hands with their own urine and blame you for everything that went wrong. True statement like in the case of General Napenas. Peenoy, showing your cell text messages to prove that General Napenas erred during the Mamasapano mission is rather insulting. You yourself can edit those messages, isn’t it? Aint’ that something else???
