LAS VEGAS, Nevada – All is well that ends well.

This is the scene at Nonito Donaire Jr.’s training camp at Top Rank Gym as he gears up for his next fight on November 9th in Corpus Christi, Texas.

The father and son tandem is back in the boxing scene after a family rift in 2010.

Donaire Sr. said Nonito’s wife Rachel was the one who initiated the reconciliation.

“Kase ganito yun. Talagang palagi ko ng tini-text si Rachel. At least hindi niya naman ako binigo. Nag ri-reply naman siya. Di naman niya pinagkait yung ano kase gusto ko talagang magkabati,” said Donaire Sr. Nonito said his wife told him that the matter need to be settled.

“She went and talked to him. Without me knowing, na i-fly niya dito [ang tatay ko] sa Vegas,” said Nonito.

Donaire Sr. said he is thrilled to be in Donaire’s corner to support and cheer for his son.

“Masayang masaya [ako],” he said.

The exchange of text messages that led to their collaboration and team work resulted to a game plan aimed to put Nonito’s opponent, Vic Darchinyan, to the canvass for the second time.

“‘Pag buo kayo’ng isang pamilya maganda yung pakiramdam nyo tsaka wala ka ng problema sa isip mo. So, but to ngayong andito na yung father ko it’s actually good kase siya yung nakakaalam sa style ko, sa lahat ng mga ginagawa ko. Kung may sakit man ako, kahit konting ano, alam niya. Siya lang talaga yung nakaka-push sa akin so for me, ngayon excited kami kase this time maganda na ‘yung may plano na kami na gagawin namin for the next fight,” said Nonito.

Donaire Sr. was his trainer when Nonito knocked out Darchinyan in the 5th round in 2007 for the IBF and IBO flyweight titles. “Basta’t mag training na lang ng magtraining. Basta’t ang kailangan maging accurate ang punches ni Jun-Jun kase kahit na anong lakas mo kung hindi naman tumatama kailangan namin ng accuracy ng punches niya. Kailangan mahagip kase kung hindi mo mahahagip eh useless din,” said Donaire Sr.

“Expect something new kase nandito na yung father ko. The duo is stronger than before so excited lang ako and we will do our best to represent our country,” said Nonito.

Donaire started sparring with two other Pinoys currently training here in Las Vegas, Marvin Mabait and Adam Fiel. “Siya din ang idol kase matalino maglaro. ‘Di lang puro lakas, utak talaga ang ginagamit di tulad ng ibang champion na puro lang suntok,” said Mabait.

“He is amazing in there. Really fast. Quick like a snake. You’ll never know when he is gonna attack. He makes really smart adjustments. Really it’s inspiring to watch and being in the ring with him. It’s amazing, you learn a lot,” said Fiel.

Fiel is scheduled to fight on October 12th, while 25-year-old Mabait will slug it out with Johnny Garcia on October 11th in the bantamweight division in Mexico for the Latino championship.
