Alberta car crash kills Filipino family members
ALBERTA, CANADA — A Filipino family is in mourning after a car crash claimed the lives of the family’s father and their grandmother, who was visiting from the Philippines.
On Sunday, Ellen Palencia of Lethbridge was on her way home with her husband Leo, mother in law Del Plantinos, and their two young children when, according to investigators, their vehicle left the road surface and came to rest against the overpass.
Leo and Del were both pronounced dead on the scene.
Ellen and her children were taken to the hospital where they were treated for serious injuries.
Investigators still don’t know what led to the crash, but do not believe that speeding or alcohol were factors.
A fundraiser has now been set in the family’s behalf to help with the expenses of sending the bodies back to the Philippines.
