ALA Boxing hopes to finalize Jonas Sultan vs. Jerwin Ancajas fight
A Pinoy vs. Pinoy world title fight in a big US city can, and just might, happen.
ALA Boxing Promotions’ Michael Aldeguer says that negotiations for a world title fight between ALA fighter Jonas Sultan, and IBF world champion Jerwin Ancajas, are continuing.
The IBF has named Sultan the mandatory challenger to Ancajas.
Ancajas, who is co-promoted by Manny Pacquiao and Top Rank recently scored an impressive knockout win in his US debut.
ALA and Top Rank have been eyeing Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Las Vegas, as possible destinations for this possible fight.
Aldeguer is in Los Angeles for the Superfly 2 Card, featuring Donnie Nietes.
“We hope to get it done this week. I’ll be sitting down with Sean Gibbons, and we’ll be discussing the details but definitely, the fights going to be happening,” said Aldeguer. “It’s the first time in 92 years so this is going to be a historical fight against two Filipinos. It’s tough to make it happen but if mandated by the IBF. It’s also something we can be proud of — that two Filipinos fighting on the world stage is something that everybody should be proud of.”
