REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – The world may be focused on the growing strength of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria or ISIS, but a top US official says the world, especially the United States, should not forget about al Qaeda.

Today in the nation’s capital, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper confirms that a group of al Qaeda fighters in Syria is becoming a rival terror threat to ISIS.

The network is known as the Khorasan group and Clapper says they may be considered as big a threat to the U.S. as the Islamic State.

U.S. intelligence officials say this terror group is composed of veteran al Qaeda fighters from Afghanistan and Pakistan.

CIA insiders say this new Syrian terror group may be even more dangerous than ISIS.

The Khorasan group is believed to be making plans to target U.S. flights.

At two dozen foreign airports, U.S. bound passengers now have to go through increased security screening, and agents are searching for hidden explosives.

The FBI is looking for American jihadists headed home.
