ADVOCATES CALL ON OBAMA TO ADDRESS IMMIGRATION

Steve Angeles, ABS-CBN North America Bureau

LOS ANGELES, Calif–Just before President Obama’s second presidential inauguration, immigrant rights advocates and elected officials took to the steps of Los Angeles City Hall demanding that the president make good on a promise of a comprehensive immigration reform bill with a pathway to citizenship for the estimated 12 million undocumented workers in the U.S.

“It’s a declaration that we mean business this year. We need immigration reform for our families,” said Aqui Versoza Soriano of the Pilipino Workers Center.

Among those asking for the sweeping reform is 23-year-old Filipino American Anthony Ng. He came to the U.S. as an undocumented youth and was recently granted deferred action under President Obama’s executive order.

While he is happy that he has secured a work permit, the community volunteer says the fight must go on. “Deferred action is only temporary. It’s only two years and it doesn’t cover everybody. I have friends who have been part of the immigrant rights movement for the longest time but they aged out or they don’t qualify,” he explained.

Congresswoman Judy Chu joined the rally and says that bipartisan work is being done in Congress and hearings on the comprehensive immigration reform bill are expected to begin soon. “As a member of the house judiciary committee you can count on me to make sure that we fight to America the land of opportunity for every single person here,” said the Democratic congresswoman.

The city’s mayor Antonio Villaraigosa travelled to Washington DC to talk to elected officials about the need for a national immigration overhaul.

Stop already , you make this as America done something wrong , while your the one entering illegally and breaking the Law.

the out of control illegal immigration is played out as a political football game. the QB is between obama and the hispanics who gave their ball of confidence for obama to make a touchdown. the linebackers as well as the total defense are ready to intercept the ball from obama. so there you go, obama has to show he has a strong arm and hand to throw the ball to his teammate receivers for a touchdown, otherwise its all back to square one, lost or forgotten promise, just like closing GITMO, a liberal cause to close, bring islamist terrorists to US soil for justice of court trials, which americans rejected, fear of chaos. immigration reform is a pure pandering issue by politicians currently by democrats to get elected or reelected. republican reagan in the 80′, the only president in history had used immigration reformed through executive order of amnesty with a strong motive and belief that illegal immigration will be solved and will be the thing of the past. we all now know this is farther from the truth, illegal aliens multiplied to 11 million plus since, without clear cut plan to stop entry of illegal aliens. yes, this is where we are right now. minority number of politicians who are pro closing of the USA borders, and non immigrant visas issued worldwide to legal aliens must be enforced, oversee that these legal aliens must leave once their visas expires, to avoid falling to the category of illegal aliens status are the only way to address a true immigration reform. industrialized countries of the world have their own problem of illegal immigration, but not comparable to the magnitude problem of illegal immigration of america. this shows the bozos, clowns in suits are given the powers by the citizens to go to DC to create more problems, instead of solutions.

Obama first term… first 2 yrs, Democrat control Congress and Senate.. They don;t care about immigration reform. 3rd yr, Republican control congress, they pass immigration bill, but it was block by Dems Senate control. 4th yrs, 3 mos before election Obama signed an executive order for handpicked illegals. I learned from sources that some of this handpicked illegals were able to vote many times, because of No voters ID law.,, 2014 there will be an election..Obama’s 2nd term objective is to eliminate Republican control in Congress. This year Republican will pass a good immigration reform bill.. It will be block by Democrat in the Senate.. Media are already prepared to destroy GOP bill and destroy their credibility.. 6-3 mos. before the 2014 election Obama will sign an executive order, in order to get the credit ..majority are handpicked illegals… If you are illegal , find out who are those immigration lawyers (preferably Latino) some are well connected to the Immigration Boss. Republicans are not that smart to pass a Voters ID law, so they might loose again on the 2014 election.

@JT right on the target , but very few people really get it . @Noz , no matter how you and I explain what need done its simply impossible , theres so many twisted and dememted brains out there , all they understand is feelings.

@ Anne , kung gusto mong ipagmalaki ang kababayan huwag idinadaan sa pursefull and crooked way. Alam mo Anne Dee is right , i can relate to what she is saying , maski nga mga Pilipino na Balik Bayan pag nag holiday sa pinas , ang buhay nila 50/50 , kasi i saw much of how those foreigners being harrassed , and if some good samaritan Filipino tries to defend them , they get a threat .

Balik Bayan Pinoys ,specially foreigners are not safe in the philippines.

If you check at the embassy in the Philippines there are 10 thousands or more applicant waiting to get approved to legally come here .

All you illegals get in line , kawawa naman yong mga waiting list , some of them waiting for 10 years tapos bump pa sila nang mga illegals . Thats not makatarungan ( justice ).
