Activists rally, celebrate as Obamacare repeal fails

LOS ANGELES — Thousands took to the streets, as Congress junked the attempt to repeal Affordable Care Act.

On the seventh anniversary of the Obamacare, thousands took to the streets of downtown Los Angeles, hoping to save former President Barack Obama’s landmark legislation.

As health providers, patients, unions, and elected officials flooded downtown LA, the march eventually became a victory party — as President Donald Trump’s replacement for the Affordable Care Act, the American Health Care Act, was not voted on, and lacked the votes to pass.

“We’ll do everything we can to make sure healthcare coverage remains a right for all the residents in LA County,” said Hilda Solis, from the LA County Board of Supervisors.

Obamacare is very important because it saves lives. It saves jobs and our economy; if there’s no Obamacare out there, people with terminal illness will be gone,” said caregiver Cindy Fernando Raheem.

President Trump was hoping to make good on his campaign promise of repealing Obamacare and replacing it with his own version — which critics say would have taken away coverage and services from millions.

“Trump’s plan is not sustainable. It’s not going to be able to provide. There’s so many cracks for primarily women and elderly women. So we just have to be careful of what’s going to happen in 6, 8, 10 years,” said activist Angela Bartolome, from St. John’s.

Many of the health professionals who took to the streets say that the 7 year old affordable care act has been helpful for many patients, especially the low income.

“It has ups and downs, but overall people just want healthcare. People want to be able to live effectively. Being sick and being pushed to emergency care as a primary result is a basic necessity,” said Bartolome.

An estimated 5 million Californians are believed to have benefited from Affordable Care Act.

Activists say Trump’s plan would have taken some 20 billion dollars away from California…

While the ACA has survived this round of legislative challenges, activists say with a president determined to repeal Obamacare, the battle has just begun.

Trump pull out the bill to repeal Obamacare knowing it will NOT pass. The GOP Ryancare was patterned after the Nancy Pelosi Bill which was “Signed the bill now and find out what in it”.Democrat signed Obamacare without reading. The Ryancare is divided into 3 phases,Ryan want them to “Sign the bill now then move to phase two”. GOP who opposed the bill said they promised to their constituents to read any bill first before signing. They knew that was the real cause why Democrat loses their seats.Trump gave an ultimatum to his party to work together & give what is best to American. But on Trump Friday deadline GOP votes was short,so he decided to discontinue the bill.It was a victory for Democrat, but GOP said Obamacare cost will increase up to the roof that it will just explode by itself. As Obama promised each insured will save $2500 annually, but today it is the reverse, the insured spend more than $3700 annually.Trump will move on to his next bill which is the budget bill.
