REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Five owners of 711 stores on the East Coast have pleaded guilty to exploiting their undocumented immigrant employees – many of them Filipino.

The store owners are charged with hiring undocumented immigrants from the Philippines and Pakistan, stealing $2.6 million dollars in wages from them, and forcing them to live in miserable conditions in the Long Island area.

They also reportedly stole identities from Americans and gave them to their employees.

The employees worked 100-hour weeks and were paid $350 to $500 dollars in cash.

Ring leader Farrukh Baig faces 20 years in prison.

The group owned 17 stores in the Sag Harbor and Greenport areas.
