Fridley, Minnesota — A Filipino man is being accused of starting a fire that killed a six-year-old in a Walmart parking lot.
70-year old Roberto Lino Hipolito, originally from Long Beach, California — was camping in a Walmart parking lot with his wife when he reportedly cooked something in a hot pot, put it in his van, then entered the store.
But his van caught fire, burning an adjacent van, where two girls were left alone for a couple hours, killing a six-year-old, and while injuring the 9-year-old.
Hipolito was charged with three felonies in Minnesota, including second-degree manslaughter. His bail has been set at $150,000.
Prosecutor have asked him to surrender his Philippine passport, which can reduce his bail to $100,000 dollars.
Hipolito, who has been appointed a public defender, is due back in court on September 5th.
