LODI, NJ – From being a Youtube sensation, 3-year-old Martin Cruz has become a favorite special performer in Filipino shows in the East Coast.
The little Pinoy drummer boy was just invited to perform as front act for the legendary Pinoy rock group the Hotdog Band.
A major influence of the Manila sound genre, the Hotdog Band is known for hit songs like “Annie Batungbakal,” “Beh Buti Nga,” “Bongga Ka Day” and “Manila.”
Hotdog’s professional drummer Lehi Rebosura says Martin has a great future as a professional drummer.
“He starts very early and we know if you start very early you will progress. But the key is you need to continue and not stop,” Rebosura said. “I could see five years from now he will be a great drummer.”
At home, Martin is just a regular boy who loves to eat pizza, watch his favorite TV show –“The Power Rangers”, and ride his bike all the time.
The only difference is when he wakes up in the morning, the first thing he does is play the drums and learn to play some new songs.
“Kahit ako nagulat, eh. Hind naman ako kagaling na magdrums before, tapos tumutugtug ako sa Church. All of a sudden nagkaroon ako ng anak na magaling sa drums na hindi man lang tinuturuan or nakakakuha ng drum lessons. Pinakikinggan niya lang, then right away, nagtatambol na siya, nakukuha niya,” said his father Dennis Cruz
Martin’s grandfather Jessie Trivino said, “I really wish for him to become a really good drummer in the years to come. He’s going to develop techniques and more complicated techniques and I wish him all the best.”
A popular U.S. television talk show has reached out to the Martins, so the 3-year-old phenom may soon debut his drum skills on national TV in the coming weeks.
“Siyempre proud, masayang-masaya,” Martin’s Mother, Gem Cruz said. “Thank you sa mga sumusuporta kay Martin.”
Little Martin says, he has this special message to his new fans.
“I love you!” said Martin
